How we teach
Swung treats music like a language. A few principles are the grammar: the beat, the root, the key, home and away. Named patterns are the vocabulary. You learn a principle, collect the patterns that use it as cards, and use the cards in a project before moving on.
Plain words first, the term second
Every idea starts with what you hear: “a kick on every beat”. Only then does it get its name, four-on-the-floor. Chord names appear after you have heard the chord.
Every change is drawn
Quiet hits shrink to a dot, swung hits slide right, held notes leave a tail. Nothing a learner changes is only heard; it is also seen on the grid.
One idea per exercise
An exercise uses one style and only the parts that matter for its idea. Fuller tracks appear as demonstrations, clearly marked, so the thing being taught is never buried.
Projects between chapters
Each chapter ends with a project checked against the chapter’s own ideas, so finishing it means using what you learned, not just dropping in a card.
How content is checked
Drafts may be written with AI help. Nothing is published until a person has checked every fact on the page: step positions, tempo ranges, swing amounts and the genres named. Pages show the date their content last changed.
